Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Secret Manager is a service provided by Google Cloud that allows you to securely store and manage sensitive information such as API keys, passwords, and other secrets. It provides a centralized and secure solution for storing secrets, enabling you to easily access and manage them within your applications and services running on GCP. Secret Manager offers features like versioning, access control, auditing, and integration with other GCP services to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your secrets.

This article shows you how to store your API key in the secret key manager and use it programmatically:

  • Set up a Google Cloud project: If you haven’t already, create a project on Google Cloud Platform and ensure you have the necessary permissions to manage secrets within that project. Also ensure to enable the Secret Manager API. This step is essential to access and use the Secret Manager service.
